How long will this take him?

OK its an ornate try target feeding it just after the lights go out many ornates are very nocturnal when small-Anne

try bloodworms and or sinking pellets

definitly try with the lights out and if its an ornate try some rosies reds to see if it wants to hunt, but definitly LIGHTS OUT & WILL EAT WHEN HUNGRY because they can go two - three weeks without eating with ease.

try live food, the lfs that you have bought it might have fed it with only live food, and try the other suggestions

I had some tiny mealworms i was feeding as treats. So i skewered one with a wooden skewer. I stuck it right in front of his face and he must have smelled its guts. He yanked it right off. He ate about 7 little ones.

I got him some giant meal worms today. They a lot bigger and fatter. They didnt have any earthworms available.

Thanks for the ideas guys. I'll also try feeding when the lights go out.

Young bichirs normaly feed on bloodworms, insect larvae and small crustaceans. When they grow larger, they will become fishfeeders. Try to offer them the most natural food, that You can get and vary it. It guarantees a healthy fish.

Or do You believe, a bichir in the wild will kill a mammal and eat its heart? Many fish will eat that stuff, if they are hungry enough, but it is for sure not suiteable as an exclusive nutrition.

Best greatings

So if you have a cat, would you feed it live mice and chipmunks? I mean, all these people that say its not their natural food. I dont get it. Just because they dont eat it in the wild, doesnt mean it cant be good for them. My fish are NOT starving and therefore they dont eat their food out of a need to stay alive. They actually enjoy it thoroughly.

And like i said 2 or 3 times already. I dont feed JUST beefheart, i feed a mix of different foods. I know feeding JUST beefheart isnt a good idea, but if you read what i wrote earlier you would see thats not the case.
And like i said in my last post, i've been giving him mealworms. SHEESH, he hasnt even eaten any beefheart since i got him.

I have two new Bichirs I got 8 days ago. It's my first time keeping these fish and I had the same problem - and my tank was already well stocked with otto, cardinals, pencilfish, loaches & S.A.E. I figured they would have a field day in there... But instead didnt touch anything. I tried frozen bloodworm, brine shreimp, myasis shrimp, loach pellets, flakes, ghost shrimp... Nothing. Then two days ago they realized that the loaches love Wardleys Shrimp Pellets. They came close to see what the fuss was about and started chomping on them. Now its all they eat.

I have those pellets. Maybe i'll try them too. :)

In a few posts I have seen people mention a beefheart recipe, I did a search on the site and could not find it.
Sorry if I am missing something, but any help would be appreciated.
Thank you.
