When you put that nice new fish into its new tank how long do you plan to keep it. When i say Plan i mean Plan as in a long term strategy as it grows.

Who's got the oldest fish on the forum? Taking into account the life expectancy of different species. so a 40 year old neon would be good. A 2 year old Oscar would not win a prize.

What have the up and downs been of keeping that fish alive.

well, I want to keep them all for life. I still have the first fish I ever purchased. He's a 5 year old oscar, so I don't win the prize! LOL

This should be an interesting conversation

Like most people, I suspect, I just end up at the LFS getting supplies, like an Algae scrubber or something, glance at the tanks (bad choice #1), and end up going "I HAVE TO HAVE THAT." knowing I have no place for it. I get it (bad choice #2) and re-arrange a tank for it (bad choice #3) and then I usually end up posting flyers at said LFS giving them away. =/ Bummer.

However, there are certain fish that I've had for life. I (well, my family, in a pond) had a Koi for well over 13 years. Come to think of it, I don't even remember how it died. We just found it belly up one day. It kinda reminded me of a Cow anyways.

Shortest I ever had a fish was 3 hours. Bought it, got it in it's own tank, then decided it wasn't for me. Gave it to a friend and fellow hobbyist for a McDonald's Hamburger & Fries.

How long did the hamburger live for, What size tank did you keep it in ? lol

Lived for about 5 minutes, kept it in a ~3gal with a bunch of other misc things. I think there was some Terriyaki Chicken and Fried Rice in there with it for quite some time. Eventually it was unloaded into a large automatic water-changing ceramic bowl.

I'm Impressed i have never been able to keep the rice and chicken together
Do you have any pictures. lol

I have almost 9 year old pacus that i had since they were baby's at an inch.. and all my fish will be with me as long as we both shall live.. i hope! And when we get a fish we always try our best to keep it forever.. try everything possible to accomplish that.. so far we are able..:D

I have a rapheal cat that I got in 1992. He is still with me.

Here is a shot of him now, and a shot of him when he was little, with the electronic date stamp 1993 on the old pic:
I am pretty sure I got him the year before because the shot shows him in my 90 and I didn't have the 90 when I got him originally, I know that..
