i had a saltwater tank last for 2 weeks with out agitation. of course the type of set up i had, just happened to work in my favor.
tis not the only just the volume its also surface area.
a 20g high/tall has a 24''x12'' footprint
while a 20g long has a 30''x12'' footprint
same given volume the 20 g long... a 12'' fish would survive in the 20g long longer than a 20g high/tall due to the oxygen- may be longer by minutes, hours, days who knows on what species but its the surface area not the volume that will have to be taken in consideration as well.
but volume will also need to be taken in for any spikes in the water parameters if you can go for more volume, go for it though if its the same surface area as the a less volumed tank then pick the greater volume in my opinion.
The surface area for the 20g long is greater than the 20g high allowing greater oxygenation going on
and its really alot variables involved like what species fish as some fish come from HIGH oxygenated rivers while other fish comes from stand still ponds its the fish themselves.
I would suggest if its 2 weeks period to purchase a portable air pump, the type they use in bait bucket and purchase a pack of batteries to keep it going.
