I currently have 1 senegal and 1 delhezi in a 10 gallon. I am receiving 2 Endlicheri this friday, both will be placed into the 10 gallon. All 4 fish are between 2 and 3 inches long. How long (in inches) should I let the bichirs get before moving them into my 20 long? How long before I move them into my 40 breeder? When they grow out of the breeder I will have a larger tank set up for them, I'm thinking a 75 gallon.

I would say pretty much a month at most for the 10-20 transition if not a couple weeks. Then a couple months for the 20-40 transition. then i would say a good 3-5 months for the transition to the 75. Thats just rough estimates. It really depends on their growth rate and size. I would defiantly keep them in the 10 and 20 for too long. You wouldn't want to stunt them. I would actually say split them. Put the endlis in the 20 gallon and the sen and del in the 10. Then move them up according to their growth and size. For the sen and del i would wait till their a good chunky 3-4" to move them to the 20g. For the endlis i would start them off in the 20. Then from there move the according to size.

If the larger tanks are available now, why not place them into the largest tank available? Seems like a lot of undo stress and wasted energy moving fish multiple times. Not trying to be a jerk, just trying to understand your thought process. I have a 75 gallon I'm using as a growout stocked with (6) 1" or so fish. The tank looks empty, but IMO the fish are better off with as much space as you can provide.

Thanks for the quick response. I think I'm going to do the split! I like the idea of that. I'll put the two endlis in the 20. I've been staring at a perfectly set up 20 for too long now haha. It will be nice to see some life in there.

I definitely see what your saying. I have just read good things about grow tanks and being able to keep an eye on your fish to make sure they are eating correctly and stay healthy. I purchased my 2 Endlis online and think it will be good to have them carefully watched for a few months. By then hopefully there is little to no stress and I can easily transfer them to their next home. :)

Put them in the 75 now, they'll grow faster and be happier. Put the food into the tank in one corner. They have great senses of smell and should have no problem finding food. You'll find yourself waiting for tanks to cycle because their growth rate when young is incredible.

I kept all my new bichirs in a 75g aquarium set-up. I just bought 2 delhizis, 2 ornates, 1 senegal and 2 endis. Bichirs ranged from 2-3 inches so I just put like 4dz feeder guppies in there for food and drop some beefhearts in there every couple of days as a treat.
