how many african cichlids can i put in a 55 for about 6 months? the only time i have kept african cichlids is when i first started fish keeping and i had like 10 plus some gouramis in a 10 gallon:screwy: haha but that was before i knew anything. but anyways. how many could i fit in a 55? also what cichlids would u guys suggest? also, any other fish u would suggest instead or in addition to the cichlids?

epends on the type and size. more fish tends to reduce aggression

Post this is in the specific section you will get a better response.

Its too broad of a question... "african" implies many lakes and rivers. I assume you are talking about lake malawi...given that...set the tank up with a sandy bottom, LOTS of rock, overfilter, and do regular water changes. The number depends on the species...post what you are looking for specifically.

personally i would do about 16-20 in a 55 long.

the smaller common african cichlids.aratus and electric blues.those kinds

16-20 what? emperors? venustus?:grinno:

Are you crazy!! for one thing venustus get freaking huge and would never be a good idea in a 55, maybe a 125 lol, and to be perfectly honest i wouldnt go with emperors either, if you wanna set up a nice mbuna tank, go with the smaller, dwarf species.
yellow labs are cool, zebras, socolofi, etc, would all get along great in a 55
