I'm starting to put my fish into my larger tank, I already put my Red oscar whos 5" and my lima whos 12" i had that huge crappie in there and i toulk him out. How many fish can i put in there before its to many.

I'm trying to say how many can i put in there before my tank spikes? Can i put all my fish in there back to back or will it mess with the cycle?

you have a test kit, right? Test the water daily. If the ammonia or nitrites spike, then don't add more fish. Since you took the Croppie out, you should be able to add more fish without fear. Ummm, how big was the crappie? Mine are about 8-10 inches but I havent seen them in several weeks.

As far as fish stocking, the bacteria culture grows in response to the waste the fish produce. If the crappie was equivalent to the lima and oscar, there shouldn't be a spike. Small deviations in waste levels (adding one more fish) either won't show detectable ammonia or nitrite levels or they will be very small and short lived.

Your filter capacity is large in comparison to what it now has to deal with. Since there is a lot of filter area and the bacteria is spread out evenly across it, the bacteria should have no problem multiplying to meet the demand. I have seen one of my large filters meet the rising demand in two days.

Well, The crappie was 12" long Very thick and hungry, I would probably put 3 dozen feeders in and they would last a week.

Now that the crappie is out, I added my oscar and lima which Arent anywhere near the crappies capacity imho. We are draining my 120gallon and moving it today, So i have to get my 2 silver arowanas 11 and 12". Along with my clown knife whos about 9". The datnoids are going into a 5 gallon bucket untill the 120gallon is drained moved and filled back up.

I'm gona add my clown knife today than put the arowanas in at the last second.

THanks\

Again, sorry if this is hard to read im rushing and my parents need help with my room.

You can use the 450 as a holding tank with no problem. Scale back on the feeding just to make sure the waste production does not get out of hand. Two silvers and a knife shouldn't be too terrible for that filter.

Well, So far i have put these in today

2 silvers and the knife, yesterday was the oscar and lima. THe nitrate jumped up from 5 to 10 which still isent to bad. A small w/c should help right? I wont feed them untill tuesday.
I still have to put in 2 Pbass but will wait till tomorrow.

The jump in nitrate is a good thing, means your beni bacteria is consuming the ammonia and nitrites. What are the levels of ammonia and nitrites

If ammonia and nitrites stay at zero I wouldn't do w/c until nitates over 20ppm

Btw, since you are redoing your room, drop the idea to your dad to set up drip systems in there.

HAha chompers I asked him and this is what he said.
We have so much chlorine and **** in our water, we would end up paying a **** load for the filter. If you want to do it be my guest, but i'm not paying nor helping.

:)

everything is at 0 and i put the Pbass in this morning. I will check the water in a couple mins to see whats up.
