Hey,

I wanna keep 4 P. bichir lapradei (already have them on reservation :headbang2 ), 4 P. delhezi and 4 P. palmas polli in a 180*65*65 cm tank (for life).

Is this possible or else how many bichir can I keep in sutch a tank?

The tankmates will be:
-2 Sorubim lima

The tank will have plenty of hiding spots.

Will this work?

That is a nice tank. I still think that might be too many fish for that tank. My bichirs are realy messy eaters. So keeping 12 of them in that tank when they will reach about 40 cm if not more each seems like alot to me. I would cut it back to 10 or 8 of them maybe.

But i could be wrong. Just my opinion. GL with it.

Heres the problem I forsee the P.laps get 20+ inches, the P.pollis 10-12 inches, the p.delhezis 12-14 inches.Size difference could be a problem. You should either keep bigger species or smaller species not the best idea to mix them like you plan on doing -Anne

70''x24''x24''= roughly 174 gallons

Okey, thanks for the answere's!
Would keeping P. delhezi with P. bichir lapradei totally out of the question?

If so, Beblondie what do you suggest for a other Polypterus?
Are 4 Polypterus Weeksii or 4 Polypterus Endlicheri Endlicheris better then?

Will there be enough room when keeping 4 of those mentioned above with 4 P. bichir lapradei ??

Sorry, so :newbie:, so many questions :p .

Thanks!

Since the tank is 24''wide this is what i'd do.I'd make it a smaller species tank using the below species if possible
P. palmas palmas ('palmas' bichir)- 13"
(subspecies)P. palmas polli ('marbled bichir)-
(subspecies) P. palmas buettikoferi ('buettikoferi' bichir)- 13"
P. delhezi ('armoured' or 'delhez's' bichir)- 14"
P. senegalus senegalus ('Senegal' or 'Cuiver's' bichir)- 12"
(subspecies)P. senegalus meridionalis- 12"
P. retropinnis retropinnis ('retropinnis' bichir)- 14"
(subspecies)P. retropinnis lowei ('Lowe's' bichir)- 12"
Just my thoughts on it -Anne

So what your saying is that P. bichir lapradei is out of the question for a 24" wide tank. That's a shame really, because that the species I would like to own most.
Would it work if I would just stick to a group of lapradei (6 pcs)?

I'd do 4 P.Laps in that tank then give them lots o room -Anne

Sweet, I wanted to know because I actually kinda already orderd them from a pet-store because I wanted them so bad. So I must leave as mutch space open as I possibly can? That sound logical....:).
Will a few peaces of wood on a bare tank with sand provide enough hiding places?

I am gonna pick 'em up in about a month. If it turns out for the bad, I can always sell them.

Thanks!

Pretty much yeppers-Anne

Another question, what does yeppers mean? :screwy:

And what will be suiteble other tankmates? Could it be:
-2 Sorubim lima
-1 E. calabaricus ('Ropefish')
