how many bio balls do I need?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
general rule is like 2.2 gals of bio balls per 100 gals of water. But I like to go more than that. For a 300 gal something like 8-12 gal of bio balls.

i got like 12 in my 180

lees bio balls says 1 gallon of bio balls to 35 gallons of water going by that 9 gallons would work but more would be better try the 9 gallons of bio balls and put nylon pot scrubbers under them

How do you measure gallons when it comes to bio-balls?
Is it the same volume as liquid? Can I just cut the top off a 1G milk carton, scoop up some bio-balls, and consider that 1G of bio-balls?

usally buy 5 gal buckets

Rallysman says he has more bio-balls than anybody!
