Hi guys. I was just wondering if you could help me out a little here. I am in the process of designing my dream tank and i would like to house a trio of black diamond stingrays in it. The tank would be 96lx48wx24h and would hold about 480 gallons. The tank will be filtered by a 150 gallon tank converted into a wet dry that has bio balls and submerged ceramic media and an xtreme pressurized bio filter (st2000). Im also going to be running a 57 watt uv sterilizer. I am going to be running 3 external pumps (2 reeflo darts as returns and a reeflo hammerhed for the pressurized filter) i am aiming for a turnover rate of at least 15-20 times an hour. Do you think this is enough or would it be a little of an overkill? All comments will be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance!

go 3ft deep when the rays go up the side glass the tail will then clear the bottom 24 is not deep enough when they come to breed the extra depth will give the male more room to flip the female

and a tank that wide and long doesnt look right at only 24 deep in my eyes

I'd add a couple of big canisters to handle the detritus that collects on the bottom. I like Eheim 2262's. If you are having it built you can have them drill a couple of holes for you.

Tank size is fine to house them for life.. There is a good width to the tank..
I would think the Turnover is a little on the overkill side.. But hey..
Over filtration is always better den under filtration..
U might wanna add it to 30 inches for height.. Good sight to see rays climb..
36 would be a hssel for me as I am only 5' 7".. Most of my tanks are 30"..
Just my .02 cents..

Perfect setup!

This is my exact setup. 480 gal, 57watt uv, 15x to 20x turnover. I use a bio reactor also

This is a flawless system and i will be duplicating this design on all my future systems

My tank is crowded but i house 6 large adult rays in it

I would have been under filtered had I gotten my 600 (8x4x2.5) I thought a hammerhead and 2 fx5 would suffice! :) but then again I'm only keeping a pair of Motoros.

IMO it is overkill but with ray, overkill in filtering is great! And large amount of water change is also a plus.
I had 1 large motoro in a 225G, and was changing water at 30% every other to keep the nitrate low. He ate so much food! I can only imagine what 3 large bd would consume and the nitrate it will produce!
