prolly no different then humans or other animals... i ate just fine up until i was in heavy labor ( 4 hours before my daughter was born) and Ive know friends that didn't eat for almost 48 hours during labor... probablly depends on the individual... but no female anything ive ever seen eats during birth/birthing...

Not saying they completly stop days before but with them being large i think the pups press against the stomach alot so i just feed more meals but smaller portions that is just me....
Ive had all diferent ways.... Never stop eating, stopped eating the night before, slowed eating 3 days before, slowed eating 3 days before then stopped the night before. It prob depends on labor time, how many pups, etc

Notice what? Do you mean stop feeding before they give birth? All four births I had ate up until the night they gave birth. If anything was under fed you would probably seen birth defects in the pups! Everything is growing good and everything is healthy. If they weren't I wouldn't have bred my brown rays in the past. Now that I have just blacks I am just waiting for them to mature and spread them out once the new bigger tank is done. I have a few more fish tanks to feed then most and 9 rays in the mix! I am already busy enough cleaning tanks and if I fed more then once a day I wouldn't be able to leave the house. I had a finished basement before I had tanks so I can't do the drip system for water changes as I wasn't prepared to rip the basement apart to do that so I still do water changes the old way. But doing it the old way is more hands on and you pay more attention to your fish unlike the drip system where health usually gets missed as they leave it all in the hands of their automatic water changes to do the work and only look at their fish when feeding. Especially all these tanks that everybody has setup down in their cinder block dungeons. How can you monitor your fishes behavior? I sit amongst my fish 24/7 as my tanks are all set up along the basement walls as I get to sit on my couch and watch the tanks and movies on the big screen TV. I always know when there is a change in behavior or when they are sick and I also have been bang on two occasions what night the females were going to give birth. I only have two tanks I don't get to see and that's my Aimara wolf fish tank and a 90 gallon tank with a single Tigrinus growing out. So out of all my fish I only miss out on viewing two on a regular basis. So if any one knows what's going on with their fish it would be me as my tanks are definitely not out of sight out of mind!

Trev I mean feed them twice or more a day and you might notice What everybody else is.your feeding 5 times per week vs some of these guys 14 feedings per week.

Sounds too much like extra work! LOL When I work it's 12.5hr days so I could only swing extra feedings on my days off. My fish seem pretty adjusted to the feeding schedule so what's not broke, don't fix scenario for me. If I find that these fish don't seem to get around to the breeding thing then I will try and up the feeding and water changes. But I think the rays still need to mature more. My Leos should be ready as they are around 3 yrs old.
Blacks don't like our water or something lol.i don't think anybody has bred blacks up here earlier than 6 years
