depends on the eventual adult size of the fish. What are you interested in?

Yup.

Depends on...

The fish themselves...
size
feeding habits
aggression
etc.

The setup you have...
skimmer
refugium
DSB
size of sump(additional water volume)
etc.

Yourself and how often you...
water change(and how much)
feed(and how much)

And also what corals you want to keep. Some corals are way more tolerant than others of less than ideal water parameters.

In a softie tank, something like 1 tang, 1 pygmy angel, 2 small clowns, and 2 gobys would be maxing it out for sure IMO.

In an hard coral tank, something like 1 tang or pygmy angel, 2 small clowns, and 1 goby would probably be a full stocking list.

Again both of those examples assume pretty good filtration and care on your part. Better or worse of any of the things above would change the stocking ability. Also, the territory thing comes into play the more fish you put in and that is why I think the first one is a fully stocked tank corals or no.

Still too vague to give a good answer. A 75 is too small for a single Naso tang for example.

Nonstophoops makes some good points, it really depends on yourr set up, not just the fish.

If you have barely any equipment and feel like changing the water once a year, get a single small goby.

If you have a sump, refugium, decent skimmer and do weekly water changes you might have a dozen small fish and one larger fish (like a small species of tang or dwarf angel).

If you have coral you probably want less fish.

A 75g is really too small for any tang.

Scopas, yellow, and other tangs that max at 8" or so can be done in there, but I would recommend 90g bare minimum.

That being said, most of those tangs never reach that size, whether it is due to size of enclosure, feeding, h2o quality, or other reasons...you can keep the smaller tangs in a 75g, just make sure you buy them small.

I have a 75 with:

2 tomato clowns
Cleaner shrimp
Yellow Tang
Lawnmower Blenny
2 Damsels

I have a 30 gallon sump with Macros
Reef octupus skimmer rated for a 150
Mag 5 and Mag 7 return pumps

Tank has 100lbs LR
2 Koralia 3 powerheads

10 gallon water changes every 2 weeks.

It has primarly softies, with a couple of SPS and some LPS. Corals all seem to do well and I dont have water qaulity issues or much algae growth to speak of.

Just an example.

i am doing a kole tang

Sounds like a nice setup Heath. Love to see some pics!

Good choice going with the Kole tang STX, I think you will be pleased.
