How many Cichla in a Heavily filtered 390 gallon

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I am definitely ready It is kinda funny cause I just bought a new cutting board lastnight for that purpose LOL

I was wondering on average how many pounds of Shrimp and Talapia can I expect est. 10 full grown peacock bass to go through per week ?
I was thinking it would be somewhere around 5 lbs ?

I think I have lucked out I found some mono's that are 2" that are feeding on hikari floating pellets , So they should "teach" the Orinos to eat the pellets also ?

I should of asked how much shrimp and talapiea they would eat in a week after their normal plethera of pellets that they would get as their staple

for pellets right now I feed ALL kinds of stuff for example last time I bought fish food I bought ken's fish earthworm sticks ,Kens premium spirulina sticks, kens premium brine shrimp sticks ,kens premium vegtable sticks, kens premium color sticks , kens premium Cichlid sticks Kens premium growth pellets ( 1 pound each )
and bought Hikari ar sticks, hikari massivore delight ( 2.2 lbs each)
Hikairi bio gold plus ( 2.2 lbs)
also bought fresh peeled shrimp, talapia fillet, scallops ( .5 lbs each) I buy every 2-3 weeks

Its kind of Odd I guess but I take one puch of each kens premium sticks and put them in a big plastic folgers coffee can with air tight lid and mix them up

Then I took kens fish growth pellets & massivore , aro sticks and Bio gold plus n a different folgers coffee can and mix

Then I put Equal amounts of the stick mix & the Growth mix into Zip lock baggies

I take the shrimp , talapia fillet, scallops and chop them up into bite size peices and mix them up and then put them into smaller zip lock baggies and stick them in the freezer till they are ready to be fed ( I take them out of the freeser and put in the fridge the day befor ethey are to be fed )

I also forgot to add that I bought 24 night crawlers & 24 crickets that I feed every so often as a treat the fish go nuts over the crickets

With the food that I bought lasts me Quite a few months actually but i don't have many Large fish

I will give a quick list of what I have so far

Will the fish food that I feed now be ok for the Peacock bass ?
anyone know of anything that I should add ?

Shrimp, silver sides and pellets was the main diet for all my fish. I use to go through 1/2 of shrimp a week, 1/2 pound of silver sides and 1/4 bag of pellets a week. Hikari 2.2lbs bags were used.

The stock was:
5x 14+" kelberi's
2x 16+" azuls
5x 7" silver dollars
1x 12" black belt
2x 7" p. Leo
2x 9" p. Casx
2x 8" p. Motoro
1x 10" p. "flower"
1x 18" tig
3x 8" earth eaters
1x 12" gar
2x 14" IT's
1x 24" arowana
I know I'm missing something, but you get the idea. I fed them once a day for a week, then every other day the next week. Some times I miss a meal or two. The diet you stated is good. But once the bass get around 14", start buying triple of what you are buying now. A bag of 2.2lbs hikari mass will last a month with 2lbs of shrimp WITH 2lbs pounds of silver sides. This is what I went through with my kelberi's, Azuls and other fish.

That will slowly drain ur pocket!!!

Yea everything looks good there I need to get on my other computer and I will add more. From what I read (and I already knew it) Cali you already got a good plethra of info and experience. From talking with you and viewing some of your other threads I am sure it is not going to be a problem for you in the coming years. I was feeding the same items as everyone else. Oddly I just got my big boy's to take silver sides this year. So as we all know it will just be an issue of what you offer.

You pretty muched covered it all. Right now I am feeding the JUMBO STICKS by Hikari and I pre soak it with Boyd's VitaChem for freshwater fish. The Jumbo Sticks will fill any adult size fish with out a problem. When the time comes you can offer other items as they take them. I offered frozen rat and mice a few weeks back and they took emm but it was pretty messy. But just to give you an idea that after 15'' it's all a matter of what you offer and how much clean up your willing to do after feeding. Hulon and I just got off the phone and what came up was you can have the biggest tank and the most expensive filter's but it won't give your fish any better of a chance then a person with 300g less then you and limited filtration in the end I believe with Cichla especially it will come down to the KEEPER.

I also noticed you listed out many solo tanks of varying size. That's good because your going to need tanks up and running trust me. Do you normally keep solo tanks? As for your larger fish you have that covered so I am sure your bass will mix right on in. They will be in the big tank in no time.
