I have an empty 55 gallon with sand bottom which I have heard in the best for cl. Is this really the best? Anyway, how many cl would be good in a 55? I was going to get 5. Is this too many for the 55? Thanks!

My petco has gotten an accidental shipment of them in, and the are selling the 1 inch cl for $4.99 a piece!!!! Amazingly, some of them are very high quality.:headbang2:headbang2:headbang2

eventually a 55 is probably too small for a good size group of adult clown loaches

I know they grow slow. How long could I keep 5 1inch cl in the 55?

UNtil their like 5-6 inches long each, then you should move them up to something like a 125 for the rest of their life. But a 55G for life, that would never work.

Ok, that sounds good. I read that they have an initial growth spurt when small, and then taper off to growing 1/2 inch a year. How long will it take for them to get 5 inches long?

Depends on quality of food and water...

Go ahead and get them. You'll have no trouble getting rid of them if you can't upgrade or need to thin out.

I would get more than five, even though they will eventually outgrow the tank. They grow fairly slowly anyway, but more is better with loaches, they are much more 'visable' in larger numbers. Single specimens or small groups can be very shy, hiding all the time or freaking out at the least disturbance. Eventually a 125 or larger is ideal, and a long tank is best so they can have some swimming room. Make sure the tank is cycled well, they don't always do well in newly set up tanks. Good price too, they are ususally about $10 here at that size.

Doesn't sound like too good of a price, especially for the smaller individuals that are less hardy. $7 bucks here in Louisville will get you 3 inchers at meijers.. to bad my tanks are back at school!
