I had 6 in a 55 gallon tank. I had them in there for about 10 years and the largest was about 4", the other's around 2.5" to 3". I usually only fed the fishes in the 55 about once a day. About a year ago, I moved all the fishes from my 55 (loaches, angels, harlequin rasboras, and a gold nugget pleco) into a 125 gallon tank. I added discus to the tank as well. I fed more frequently (2 sometimes 3 times a day). Within a month, the largest loach got to be 5", while the other loaches grew maybe slightly. I measured the loach again several months ago and it was about 6". I guestimate the loach to be around 7", while the other loaches to be about 4"-5" or so.
How many clown loaches would be successful in a 55?
