Crappie get quite large. I've personally caught black crappie 18" so I'd say that tank is way too small for even a single fish.

If you're really interested in sunfish, I'd encourage you to investigate orangespotted sunfish, Bluespotted sunfish and the like. They stay very small and are also mild tempered.

I can confirm that, they get very big. I caught one 20" long on a sucker, fishing for northern!!! Silver crappies get just about as big as well. I wouldn't put a crappy in anything smaller than a 70gal.
