Thanks for the great info aprime11b and Draken, you gave me useful information that I can use. @ Bderick67 the only reason you responded to any post or comment which ever way you want to look at it, was to talk **** and belittle someone. You and your buddy Gshock still haven't answered the question, How Many??? What do you feed your Aro because it sounds like you think every food source is contaminated somehow. We might as well curl up in a ball or sit in the corner and stare at the wall.

No prob, best bet though keep him on pellets and feed other variety of frozen, freeze dried and live(meal worms, crickets) as snack, and on rare occasions, beef heart. Not so much, but just enough. Beef heart has it's down fall because it contains alot of fat that's why feed sparingly, I used to feed mine every month, just to beef my Jardini up a lil bit.

LoL The two people you thank, also neglected to answer your question:ROFL:
Your comprehension skills are lacking, never said every live food source is contaminated. Only tried to point out the unavailability of most and the dangers of feeder goldfish, sorry you missed that. The information I have given is valid, sorry that you are unable to process it.

As for what I feed my four arowana. Well every other night they are offered frozen market shrimp stuffed with foodsticks. The 2 black aros eat 1-3 shrimp each and the two silver aro eat 3-6 shrimp each. On nights they don't get shrimp they get a handful of freeze dried krill, the blacks eat most of this. Also once a week they are offered nightcrawlers each get 4-6. Once a week I will dump 30 crickets into the tank, again the blacks eat most of these two.

In addition every afternoon large pellets are offered along with small, pellets and crumbles for the other fish in the tank. The two black aros will eat the large pellets, small pellets, crumbles, frozen brine shrimp and blood worms. the silver aros have DE and this hinders their ability to take pellets, crickets or frreeze dried krill form the surface.

Also note, once a week the frozen market shrimp is substituted with frozen silversides.

hahaha! omg chill guys! actually bderick67 and gshock were answering my very first qn after OP's post and their replies were valid, with sarcasm that was meant to be taken with humour not offence :) anyway martinboy, i think u should leave like 10 crickets there in one feeding and come back a while later to see if there are any leftovers! if there are like 2 leftover, ur feeding portion in future should be 8. if 3 leftover, feeding portion will be 7 and yea.. u do the math :) however if there are no leftovers u jus slowly increase till u find the combination :) for me, i personally just throw in a bunch of catfishes and my aro will go shooting about taking them out till he is full and there will be some leftovers :) im lazy to take em out so the feeders will be able to survive till NEXT MEAL :) AND i admit it was my bad for derailing the topicat the start! SORRY!

Thanks Guys I will continue to switch it up and I'm glad that he (or she) eats pellets. I was only feeding 1 cricket cause I didn't want to over due it but I will try a hand full once or twice a week. I started a cricket farm and worm farm to get clean food and because I plan to add more monsters and would like to cut down the cost of LFS food and or dried & frozen food. Sorry for the confusion I appreciate all the input, I'm sure I'll have more noob questions soon.

i was lucky i guess. Mine loves pellets and crickets. Hes only 5 inches and just started eating pellets 2 days after putting him in the tank.

Aros love crickets! I have only fed my aro crickets once. He ate the whole dozen. Not sure if they are nutrient rich though.

Hahah they were just the small ones but I bet he could beat that if I tried.

Cricket farm would be awesome untill a few escaped within the first month. Thats why i put the whole dozen in there. Just to make sure none got away from the container.

When my red arowana was about 8in, I fed it around 6-8 superworms(large worms) and 1 teaspoon of pellets. It willl stop eating when it had enough and I cleared up all uneaten food from the tank. I don't feed crickets, insect gives me goosebumps. My aro is now 18in and it no longer likes pellets. It feeds on worms, frogs and occasionally platys.
