I have a 55 Gallon tank that has 5 adult Matumbi Hunters and I had planned to add some Crimson Tides because body shape and coloration are vastly different so small chance of hybridlization.

I picked up 20 CT fry that I am currently growing out but I'm curious as to what others think would be a good number to add to the tank with the Hunters once large enough to do so. I was thinking around 10-12 but unsure.

Sounds ok, but we would need to know what kind of filtration that you have.

Filtration isn't an issue, more or so looking for opinions as to what would be a good number as to spread the aggression, but not to make the tank extremely overstocked.

Overstocking depends on the filtration. If you just have one HOB filter then you can only keep a few fish. If you have a lot of filtration, you can keep a bunch.

I think that 10-12 would be a good number. 3-4 males & 8-9 females would be the best group.

I am not sure this mix will work...Just keep an eye on things. The crimson tides are a pundamillia species which tend to be quite aggressive. More like mbuna temperments. The hunters I have seen are not too aggressive but as we know all fish vary and they may be fine. Also, keep in mind the hunters are a critically endangered fish...So try not to kill them.:D

No Hunters will be harmed in the making of this tank :D

Taking what steps I can to make sure this happens - IE them being in the tank first, them being larger then the CT's and then of course spare tanks in case of any mishaps.
