How many dats in this tank?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I say anywhere from 6-8 thinbars. They dont get as deep bodied as the others.
As icthyophile stated, a bigger group does encourage swimming and socialism activity. I noticed in my tanks that the more you have they tend to actually school together. Good luck with your tank. Remember to do huge water changes and have lots of bio. I personally think that thinbars are by far the most susceptible to disease, especially gill problems.

Why's this?

yea i figured most people would say between 5-7, i gotta little worried when I was told 2-3, i thought there was somthing i didnt know.

Sinister - waht kind of gill problems?

Well for starters, have you ever seen a large thinbar? I remember others talking about SDS(sudden death syndrome) They just die at a certain age/size. they get gill flukes and gill disease quite easily. They pick up ich very fast and they never ship well. Usually everytime they come in, they are half dead. They grow a little slower and are harder to train then other dats. Sounds like I'm bombing on thins but I'm just saying that they are sensitive for dats and that you should keep up with water changes and up the bio. Good luck

thanks for the info sinister,

i would hate to put alot of work into a bunch of thin bars just to have them all die for no reason. Guess ill have to factor that into what i do with this tank

I gotta think more then 2 or 3, am I wrong?

Thin Bars max aout around 14inch (as far as I understand) but will most likely not get bigger then 1 foot. Even assuming they reach 16inches each I would think 150 Gallons could hold more then 3, no?

Please let me know if I am way off here.

Sorry about the not-so good info man. I'm no dat expert. I guess more is okay. To my extent of knowleadge, dats grow quite bigger than a foot. Anyway, go with what the other dudes say.

NO prob man, you were probably thinking about widebars which can get 2 feet long, or indos that get around 18inch. Thin bars have the capability of getting over a foot (so ive heard) but rarely do.

True, True. But they are pretty awesome when they reach that size like this dude here.
