Demasoni are like tropheus. Large colonies to spread around the hate. Even in my 75 I have a hard time with 4 males. All was fine for over a year and breeding was taking place. Then one day BAM! The colony decided not to accept one male and tore him to shreds. In a smaller group this will happen faster. Probably even before maturity and breeding occurs. To the poster with the 29 - I hope you are putting them in a larger tank and making a colony, otherwise you will have a tank of one demasoni.

i'd say 4 to 5 because the ones at the ones pet stores are only 2.5 to 3 inch.just pute lots of rock and good filtration you should be fine. good luck
i worked at a pet store and they had a 45 gallon with over 20 demosoni.tank had lace rock and driftwood didn't kill each other.fish has a different personality.
In a 30G I would start with 12 small DEMS and let them work themselves down to about 8. You could also throw in 3-4 small yellow labs. You would have about a year to get a bigger tank. They need lots of rocks to get away from each other. Good luck.
A large colony is best, but you will lose some. If you can not accept the loss, you can try tetras. They are pretty good together. LOL
I would not expect 20 in a 45. OF course what size 45? You mean 4fter? 3fter? Foot print matters.
Never trust what a petstore has setup. Fish are there about as long as well, you know. I see petstores keep 30-40 mbuna in a 29. They also clean out the dead ones daily.
