How many fish in 55 gal???

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Yes, you are VERY over stocked. You need to get a pond if you plan on keeping your existing stock. DO NOT add any more fish to this already overstocked tank.

thanks and i am thinking of upgrading to a 250gal tank then growing them out before i grab ahold of a indoor/outdoor pond...

Loaded question to say the least. But I'll give you an idea of what I had in a 55 at one time.

70 Tiger Barbs of differing color
2 Red Tail Sharks
Several small plecos, no idea what they were.

This tank thrived for over two years until I went on vacation and my house was broken into and vandalized.

That being said, my filtration.

2 modified Emperor 400s
2 Fluval 405s
Several Maxi Jet 1200s

I did 40% WC weekly. And cleaned the sponges on the MaxiJets every other day.

Mike

i think i am gonna need to get newer and better filtration...

on a second thought...would it be better to use a diy 10-20 gal sump??? maybe giving me some ideas of a descent 10-20 gal diy sump???

I know that ill need a really big pond but from the homeworks that i have done, a pond with approx. 8'-12' should do me good for a long time...and i was thinking about grabbing those above ground swimming pool but lets see how things go....

that rtc is going to be the size of your tank in a blink of an eye i would get one but they are just to big good luck to you hopefully the rtc doesnt eat your other fish when he gets bigger

i hope not...;)

Get rid of the sterlets. They do NOT work with ANY kind of tropical fish, and never in a tank or pond under 3,000g !!!

With the growth rate of your fish and the stocking.. you're looking at approx 3 monthes or less until you'll need something bigger or your going to start loseing fish imo ( filtration and water changes can only do so much compared to the mass of fish)... and I'm not going to reiterate on whats already been said here reguarding your actual species list.

Hoping will not slow his growth or change his behavior. You need to SERIOUSLY re-think your stock and future plans for fish keeping. To put it bluntly, you're doing a very bad job so far...

what i meant to say was i hope that the rtc doesnt eat up the other guys bc they are bought the same size...

oh and thanks for sharing what ever was on ur mind...this is really helping me to becoming a better mfk....
