Why better than any Eheim?

my take-

FX-5's are a mechanical filtration powerhouse, major turnover.

but eheims are powerhouse bio filtration filters (slower turnover)

the best of both worlds is a tank with both. nethier is totally better being that they both do different jobs. Eheims though are regarded as a better built and longer lasting filter, fluval has yet to prove that being that the Fx-'5 are still new.

how long have Fx-5's been out, 1 year mabey a little more? unless you have owned alot and they have all failed or know people who's Fx-5's have failed you can't say this- just because of an assumption because of other fluvals. if you haven't noticed Fx-5's are built completely different.

and you can get new ones off ebay for 160-180 shipped. 925 gph, and 8 liters of media capacity- from my experience they are an amazing mechanical filter.

I have a FX5 on my 160. It is yet the best filter that I have owned. I also have two magnum 350's that I have been using for 6 years now and they have yet to fail. With the load that my fish leave in the tank the addition of the FX5 has been nothing but beneficial to keeping my fish happy and my water parameters in check. I got my FX5 about 2 months ago, shipped to my door for under $200. Now with that price, and for such a large canister filter, that was one heck of a deal.

I'm glad so many people are quick to doubt an opinion. Since you are cynics, I bought 2 when they came out. 1 Leaked right out of the box, I was able to fix it however... just the O-Ring. Put it in the closet for emergencies. The other the motor completely burned out (I didn't keep this one, it was a present for my brother). I know several other people who have them, and many are happy with them (only 1 other person had his break). Then again, I know a couple of people who are happy with their Penn-Plax canisters.

I wasn't saying others shouldn't buy them, so hop off. I understand how much they can hold, I understand how much their flow rate is, and I understand the price... that doesn't mean I have to like them.
