how many full grown africans can i fit in a 75 gal ?

How is it supported?Over filtration is a must if you plan on getting 30 to 40 cichlids. Mbuna, peacocks and haps can all be aggressive. You will have to find the right combo. Some fish are just sobs mbuna or peacock. I would stay more in the 10 to 20 range is a better number to start off with. Let your filters build up so you could add a few more if you really wanted to. Dont forget if you get 10 cichlids they will breed in no time, and will naturally tell you how many can live in the tank.
if you have any african-american buddies who would be willing to climb in your tank then go ahead ha ha ha jk

I've got 16 Africans in a 75g and I'm running an AquaClear110 HOB filter. I've been checking my levels about every 3 days since they just got hastily moved there from my 125 when it decided to spring a leak. I was able to move the used media, decor, sand and 75g of the used water over into the 75g, so after the first day or so, my 'cycle' hadn't really lost any time. I say that only to give you a baseline on this. My point is, that on a tank that has already cycled, I've got 16 healthy and happy Africans in a 75g tank, going on now almost 3 weeks, and i'm only just last night starting to creep up to maybe .25ppm on my ammonia, and they're fed daily. I plan on doing a small WC tonight when I get home, but not bad for almost 3 weeks!! So yeah, I could fit more in there, but then I'd be doing water changes a lot more often!! Just something else to consider.

I have an 80 gallon bowfront with about 30 mbuna in it. Most are sub adults with a few fry. I plan on thinning out the group once they are adults. For now I have a eheim 2217 and an eheim 2028 on the tank and I do weekly water changes of 50%. My water parameters are always good and nitrates never go above 20.
