I found a local advertismnet in wich a guy trys to sell severall fullgrown cichlids. Severall vieja species, jd, carpintes and so on. I am really interested in these, but how many couples could i keep in my 150 g? I would like a couple of vieja and a couple carpintes. And probably ad some lsn and a large L number (like a panaque).

I am not an expert by any means but multi pairs of big cichlids in a 150 is not really a good idea. A breeding pair could claim most of the tank as there own territory and defend it.

Im sure some other more experienced keepers will add views here also.

Well i have a 150g with the following.
Breeding pair jags
breeding pair cons
female FH
Male RD
Oscar
Male salvini

IMO i'm well overstocked and the aggression seams to be getting worse by the day, I keep a good eye on things but its like a volcano waiting to blow. If your looking at keeping pairs you may well get away with two breeding pairs but then again it all comes down to aggression. My RD own's the tank, The only way he would stop being agressive towards his tank mates is if he didn't have any.

thats to much,of big cichlids in a 150 gl tank.
because lot of vieja species getting over18 inch or 45 cm
an 150 gall is555 liter
so i think its better to get one,,maybe big couple of vieja's and a few smaller central americans..
but,,,thats my opinion ;)

A Vieja piar would claim the tank if grown

50 gallons to one foot of fish IMO.
i have a 9" umbee, a 6" pair of carpinte, a 6" zonatum, a 22" silver aro and a 17" jag and a 6" jag in my 230.
it doesnt look full but i still think that is too crowded

3 or 4 adults tops but no prs. of any species over 8" . Veja can be hostile especially argentea.

Full grown, maybe 3 or 4 depending on indivdual temperament and filtration.

By that standard, a 24" Umbie could go in a 100 gallon tank.
