How many hours of light daily?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have my lights on 12 hours per day with no plants and never had any algae problems.

Does anyone know if the amount of light effects the fish in any way, slowed growth?, or decreased apetite?? I have my light on about 12 hours a day, but much of it I'm at work. I'll cut the light down to only the hours I am home, as long as there is no benefit to having lights on or no harm done to the fish only having about 6 hours a day.

had no lights on my 180g for about a month now, no problems thus far. Certainly helps with the clown loaches security issues. When i do finally get round to making a hood, i will time the lights so that the lights come on about 4pm and go off about 11pm. This is to try and avoid any sudden increases in light level.

You also might want to try moonlights. My clown loaches are really active with them on, and I can still see them!

All lights are on from 7am till 1am. All reptiles too. 18 hours that is.
Moonlights cover the remaining hours.
Reason is I wanna see and enjoy 'em when I am awake.
All animals and plants are flourishing. If they were not, I would change things.
Go to bed earlier, probably. Or get up later.
:D

I might try that, gonna incorporate led lighting in my new hood to keep it slimline. How do you sequence your moonlights and normal lights?

I used to have my moonlights on whenever the normal lights were off, now I just turn on the moonlights manually whenever I want to watch after the normal lights go off
