I have 1 green terror and in another tank 2 geophagus Abalios, how many hrs of light should they be getting? Goin to buy a timer today.

I have a cuban, severum, firemouth and convict and my lights are on for 11 hours. Seems to work fine. I don't think the fish care; it's just for our benefit.

Fish dont need lighting. Daylight will do. Lights are for plants, and for us to look at the tank.
exactly i believe you asked this question on a different forum and i gave you the same answer.

In a fish only tank I would set the timer to go on when you get home from work and turn off around the time you go to bed. Whats that about 6hrs? leaving the lights on too long in a fish only tank is asking for alge more so if you use carbon in the filter. Low wattage .5 WPG is more than enough light.

Unless you have a planted tank you want to use as little light as possable or you'll end up with a bunch of alge
