hi there, i was just wondering if anyone can tell me how many Piranhas i could have in a 100 Gallon tank... sorry a 100Gallon tank... the Rio 400 (400litres) : http://www.theaquariumshop.co.uk/juwel-rio-400-o-30.html
i was thinking about Red Bellied Piranhas? Also i heard that Excotens (sp?) can sometimes live quite happily with the piranhas?? thanks very much :thumbsup:

In a 100g tank of those dimensions I would recommend 4, possibly 5 red bellies. I think a general rule is 20gal per piranha. If you wanted to you could start with like a dozen, let them grow, and then slowly sell the lesser aggresive or smaller piranhas as they get larger. Also might not be a bad idea into looking into caribes or pirayas. I would only go with 4 pirayas though as they tend to get larger than red bellies or caribes. Good luck with setting everything up and deciding what to go with.

You should be fine with 5 fish. Like he stated you might want to get several more than you intend to keep for life in case of an accident. You could then sell a couple of them once they start to reach full size.

Brian

I would stick with 4-6 reds. Caribe grow to large and a far too aggressive to try in a tnak of that size.

I think the fish you are thinking of are exodons. Like anything else with Ps they will eventually get eaten. They are usually quit expensive too so I wouldnt risk it. I came across some cheap ones and decided to try it and they lasted all of five minutes!

As a rule for Ur future concerns, think of this:
* for Pygo species, calculate for EVERY fish x 30 gals;
* for Serra species, A SINGLE ONE for 75 gals or more.

I think 5-6 would be just right with the proper filtration and good aquarium mangement.

As for P's in the Philippines there are a lot of sellers here it's just hard to get to know people who will trust selling them to you. Only red bellies are readily available with the rhombeus and other stuff harder to get and with a very big premium.
