Juvenile discus excrete a lot of wastes. They require plenty of feedings so it's not an option to minimize water changes as much as you want lest you want them stunted. Daily water changes attributes patience. It pays off in the end when your discus grow steadily and magnificently.

cool thanks for the heads up, how many times a daily should I feed them.
all my discus eat 4-6 cubes a day.

Craiglist has bargains but make sure filters are in working condition. I'd go with 205.

all I could find are fx5's,405's, and a eheim 2215? classic. maybe I should do the dyi make a canister out of a 5 gallon bucket, and use some clear big tubing.

It's not bad. Just do daily water changes until they reach 4-5 inches.:)

What cubes? Vary the diet and give 5-6 small meals in a day.

I give them frozen blood worm, frozen beef heart cubes, regular flake food, and every now and the tetra color bites.

Ahh...It's good so far. I'd give beefheart and bloodworms once or twice a week only. Try NLS and Kensfish. Kensfish.com has plenty of great deals and will save you money in the long run.

so I just need to feed them flake food, and once or twice a week blood worms and beef-heart.

a variaty of diet daily is better, i would also feed the BH as the last meal of the day before changing their water since BH can foul and cloud your water. did you say 15 in a 30 gallon? thats alot of fish in there. unless your planning on really doing massive daily WC i wouldnt do it(but im not saying its not do-able) you have to remember that discus do grow pretty big, they maybe flat but they grow big. and then, you have to consider that fact that they are schoolers. i would just suggest maybe a couple of sponge filter?? who needs a mech. filtration since you would have to change water daily? and carbon and all that stuff isnt really needed when growing out. 15 3inchers is ok for now, i guess your planning on transfering them to a bigger tank soon. you l be suprise how fast how discus juvies can grow :) so thats my opinion, every hobbyist has their own, youl figure it out in the long run ;) good luck to yah!..hope i made sense(im half awake lol)

PS and as for cube size, i do 2 fish per hikari FBW cube size ;)

thanks what do you mean by FBW? I didn't say I was going to put 15 in there.
I asked how many I could put in there, and someone said 15. at most i'm going to put 6 many 8. also a guy from a local fish forum that lives down the street from me brought me a sponge filter and a whisper 20-30? power filter with a wet pad and the sponge wet from an establized tank. how long will I have to wait before I can add fish, when the ammonia, and nitrite says 0 and the nitrate says 20 or less right?

Frozen Blood Worms. i wouldnt use that guys filter unless you completely clean/disinfect it. you really dont want to risk getting something from his old tank. i personally dont cycle tanks anymore since i do more than 75% WC daily anyway...but thats just me. you can however start a fishless cycle with biospyra or somewthing like that if you want

what about seachem stabality(spelling?) if I used that stuff along with prime how long will it take to cycle. I thin I can get a new power-filter for around 15-20 dollars. um or should I still find a canister filter?

im not sure what that brand is but if its suppose to cycle your tank i would give it a shot. since your just growing out your fish in a bare tank, a couple of sponge filter is all you really need to about ~a year. anything else with just be all you, adding additional filtration can NEVER hurt though ;) maybe if your planning on planting the tank and adding more stock/tank mates in the future then your canister filter/overhead filtre would be alot more useful and needed. but for now, since canister filters can nip your pockets i think you can hold off it for now.
