Just wanted to see how many people here use under gravel filters as part or all of their filtration
post what you use and your feedback on it :)
i personally have two plates in my 40 gal as part of my filtration, i love them so far

use to have on in my 30.. it needed a lot more cleaning than it got...

i use one in my sump though... however i use it as a drip plate.. it works great

i use it for my 20G guppy feeder tanks since u can't use a gravel filter.(sucks out the babies). and if an outbreak happens which hasent happened to me yet and teh tank has been running for 5+ years, then u can take the tank down to 1.5 inches. which i only did b/c the pickings for babies was low for the fry feeding. good system, it only dosent work if u have to much gravel above it.

I use one in my 125 gallon with 4 powerheads. It stays very clean and water test always look good. But I also do 50% water changes every week and run two AC110's and a FX5. :D

use to use one on my 20 but will never touch one again. all they do IMO is pull the crud down deep into the gravel making it a b**** to clean. however, check out RUGF threads because i think at least that way you dont have to worry about gumming up the plate or digging when vaccuuming to get the mulm

I use them on my cold water tank. I think UG's are the most efficient filter you can have.

i have seen them in the fish shop with about 1.5inch of dust on them :D

its funny that you asked this question. I was actually thinking about going back to an undergravel filter. That is all I use to use, before I went to wet/dry sump. I hate the wet and dry. Undergravel was always crystal clear water. Undergravel with lots of rocks and a few high end powerheads use to work great for me. From my personal experience with the different filter types I can't say anything negative about the UGs. You have to use the python on them once a week though, but that should happen with any tank. I have a huge and expensive wet and dry, but it sucks imo.
