After moving some fish around, i've now got an empty 48x30x18, which i would like to keep some Midas cichlids in. How many could i have and if so any tankmates. It would be my first time i've kept them. But i do keep other large cichlids, e.g oscars, texas, pike cichlids. And any good pics if you've got any please.

hi i have found it hard to find red devils(labiatus) in the uk,most fish that i see are midas, not that it matters as they are identical in husbandry requirements, food etc.I would say that in a tank that size to start off with half a dozen youngsters in the normal way and see what happens as they are likely to tolerate each other longer that way good luck:D

i kept a midas in a 48"x18"x18" and he was quite aggressive, after he had killed the other cichlids in the tank apart from a smaller dempsey,he tried to bite off the end of my thumb!!! The only other fish i've had that bite harder were marine triggers! I wish i had kept him now though as he was a fantastic show fish, once again i hope it all works out:)

You could get away with just a pair in there ;)

only 2 in the max, being that it's only 4' long
