Our 8 year old has been waking up on a consistent basis every night between 1-3 AM because one of my wife's friends let him watch a scary movie, going on 3 weeks now. It's getting really trying on the nerves, anyone have any suggestions?
do what we do when he wakes up cause he's scared just scare him right back to sleep as you see him get up and walking over to the bed you just turn over real fast and scare the crap out of him you'll see how fast he runs back into his bed and closes his eyes.
Give him his favorite stuffed animal, and tell him that he will protect him from all the monsters. Tell him that as long as the stuffed animal is on his bed, he will be protected. That's what we did and it worked like a charm.......... Just don't lose the stuffed animal!! loL!!
Not that I am trying to disagree with djdlemma, but I think introducing the word "monsters" to an 8 year old is not going to go well. The idea about a stuffed animal is a great idea though. Do you have a dog or a cat? If so, try to get the family pet to stay the night with him. Or get a bright "fun" colored night light for him. Good luck, been there too.
Neither, he's using it as an excuse to get attention from his mother. While I know the issue of him waking up is genuine - and he was probably scared at first from seeing Resident Evil (idiot friend). Now it's become a routine for him - to where she goes into his room every time he wakes up and spends 15 minutes at a time with him. I keep telling her she needs to just go to the door and tell him to go to sleep then close the door but she's too much of a mom, haha.
I think the problem is it's been going on so long now that it's part of his routine, hopefully school will remedy it.
My daughter went through this stage recently for 2 months. Then one day it just stopped. I don't really think there is anything you can do but go thru the motion. Hopefully he will grow out of it soon. Good Luck.
Ugh it's so tiring though! My wife had to actually skip work today because we were so tired, I didn't think she was safe to drive this morning. My patience is worn thin when I haven't slept more than 4 hours for weeks.
