Neither, he's using it as an excuse to get attention from his mother. While I know the issue of him waking up is genuine - and he was probably scared at first from seeing Resident Evil (idiot friend). Now it's become a routine for him - to where she goes into his room every time he wakes up and spends 15 minutes at a time with him. I keep telling her she needs to just go to the door and tell him to go to sleep then close the door but she's too much of a mom, haha.

I think the problem is it's been going on so long now that it's part of his routine, hopefully school will remedy it.

i agree ..if it goes on too long it is just like anything else we humans do..it becomes a habit.... i like the idea of a bright colored nightlight or pet and just leaving the door open slightly... but definitly no long intervention .. just "everything is alright go back to sleep"... "we always will be here to take care of you.." see you in the morning for your favorite breakfast...:D.

No family pet, we're leaving a night light PLUS the light outside his room on...I think it's just an attention thing.

that should do the trick... just got to break the habit... this too shall pass lol

Put a lock on the outside of his door........this will work when his is a teenager as well!!!! that or Rubitussin A-C with Codine, He won't wake up till the morning!!! :D

do what we do when he wakes up cause he's scared just scare him right back to sleep as you see him get up and walking over to the bed you just turn over real fast and scare the crap out of him you'll see how fast he runs back into his bed and closes his eyes.

Did you ever see that video of the parents walking into thier kids bed late at night. You hear the dad say... so the kids decided it would be a good idea to watch texas chain saw masacre.... then his wife who I guess is holding the camera flicks on the lights as the dad starts an actual chain saw....Hilarious.... thank goodness my parents weren't so "funny"

What did your friens let your kid watch?

Good Luck, as far as the lock on the outside of the door, bad idea. We tried that with my 4 year old, and it just scared her more. I hope you get some sleep, and let us know what works

Child abuse cases left and right!

:) I hope you took my remarks as jokes...hence the smileys

In all seriousness, looks like you need to talk to the wife first. Both of you need to be on the same page before you try and parent a child. Step 2 be a better parent by making sure your baby sitters know what the child can and cannot watch. You say idiot friend, but it's your job to make sure your child is in safe hands!!! Step 3 stay off the internet when asking people for advise. Go to a professional for help if you want professional advice. Take care of your self & I hope you can figure out away to make your child feel safe in your home.

Steve

I took it as a joke Steve ;) We're on the same page, she just loves him too much and it's hard for her to not cater to his needs as a result.

The babysitter is actually a friend that has known Tyler since he was first born 8 years ago, he knows better than to let him watch that kind of stuff.

As far as professional advice, I wasn't looking for it - I was looking for advice from other parents to see what has worked for them. If you think some one with a PhD has more experience than some one who has actually been through the process of raising a child, you haven't raised a child :P
