Just curious?

Say you walk into a LFS and in the tank they have Midas Cichlids for 9.99, but on the tank it has three different prices? Midas Cichlids 9.99, Green Terrors 5.99 and Convicts 3.99 (just for example)

Then you get the high school kid who knows nothing about fish and I point at the Midas and tell him, " I want that convict cichlid right there"

Then he charges you 3.99 for the fish LOL

I do this all the time at one of my local petshops :D

Maybe its wrong to do, but they should hire a staff with some experience in fish :)

Personally I don't...and I'll tell you why. Others can do the same thing to you one day and it might not be as much fun with the shoe on the other foot.

Right wrong...good bad or indifferant it's called respect. You can't expect it if you never show it.

You're basically talking about stealing. Not many ways to slice it.

I respect the people at my LFS's. I don't try to rip them off (most of them know their stuff anyways), but around here, I see them as being on the same team because this hobby is their passion too, otherwise they wouldn't be running a fish store. :D

They're counting on the fact that customers will be honest about what they pick and the price...
If the employee doesn't know which fish are which I don't know how they're picking out the correct fish for anyone, but that doesn't mean you should specifically point out the wrong fish.
And yes, that pretty much is stealing. It's akin to switching tags on an item at a store which is against the law. If you want to do that that's your choice, but it's kind of crappy to gloat about it.

Now you guys are making me feel bad. I always considered it the LFSs fault for not hiring someone with a little bit of knowledge in fish..

Karma is a motherfocker.

The LFS's I use and trust to buy my fish from know enough that this would never work. Also if you use them regularly and build a relationship with them you'd be amazed how much help and support you'll get in the future (especially if things go wrong!)
