ive got a sponge filter hooked to a powerhead in my shrimp tank as well as one in my 75gallon... however that one is just there for water movement.. bt i figured if im going to have a powerhead going it might as well have some sort of filter on it...
For hatchery setups, retail etc work good. Displays can work & help in filtering but need to hide. I always say to over filter a tank is better, but more then 90% of the time a external air pump would go back on after a power outage as oppose to other filters. So if you are away for the weekend at least the fish will live! Even if you at least ad a air stone or bubbler of some sort is good plus it can cause a under current & help with less dead spots?
