Depends on the union and the trade. UAW suck in every which way possible. They have the idea that they are entitled to a job and a certain wage. As a MS level engineer the idea that a floor sweeper (even with 20 years experince) should make anything close to my salary is crap, and communist FYI. And it is for exactly that reason that many of our engineers are immigrants. Here you can get a nice stable UAW job (but only if you know someone in the UAW, the other reason I dislike them) and there is no need to struggle through 7 year in school, and take on huge loans.

Now smaller unions for certain fields are more reasonable and thus less destructive, though still a fundamentally communist concept.

CEO bonuses are often paid in stock options which using magic math (Arthur Anderson accounting) don't actually cost the company anything. This will vary from one company to another.

My question to all those who so hatefully lament huge CEO salaries: What is stopping you from doing the same this? Gates, Buffet, Elison, Jobbs, ... are all self made, not inherited money. You think CEO have huge salaries and easy job, go become one then talk.

Im a non-union electrician, i used to want to be in the union cause of the pay but went against cause ill rather start my own company and the bench time is crazy for the union guys around here.

never had a day off i didnt ask for in 25 years..
unions dont belong everywhere as previously posted...other than high dues and some lazy people we 'carry', i am happy with my union..wish it were a perfect world and we only kept the cream of the crop but unfortunately we have family and plain greedy,no class fools just like everywhere else..take the good with the bad i guess.
