How many people does it take to lift...

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
My custom 3/4" glass rimless 120 was a nightmare. I didn't have the strongest help, but even with 5 people (ok, 4.2 people as there was a 75 year old) I thought we were going to drop it going through the doorway. It's over 500lb with the external overflow and being only 4ft long mean not much room for people to grab the sides when going past doorways.

I moved enough all glass tanks to know 2 people can take a 180 gallon with 5/8" glass down a set of stairs with 2 90 degree turns but it's not a fun time. Moving any glass tank over 125 gallons sucks, I moved a 250 gallon acrylic single handedly no problem

for acrylic 1 person. i moved my 180g acrylic by myself.
used a dolly from the car/driveway to the door. for glass
2 men should be able to move it.

Years ago O'dell made aquariums that were super heavy, Their 55 gallon tanks were made of 3/8" glass. Their 135's had 5/8" glass. No center bracing and tanks never bowed. Wasn't and still isn't fun moving them.

My missus moved my 160 gallon all on her own whilst i was watching footy and having a beer. When she got out of hospital after she had her back reset i got her to move my sump upstairs, with the water still in it! Her surgeon went mad at me. Some people are just so tetchy.

just to give you an idea me and my dad moved a 220 just the other day with 5/8" glass out of our basement with just the two of us. It was heavy as h*** but we could do it

moved my 300 to the basement with two really strong guys. ( I work for a moving company ) They shoulder strapped it . The guy on the bottom ended up with marks all down his back .... Next time around I have a better plan with piano skids so the only lifting will be from the stand down to the piano skid. . Your acrylic tanks will only take two guys.
