How many people have a dedicated quarantine tank?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I did have but its turned into a tadpole tank for my 3year old daughter to observe.
All developing frogs will be returning to my outdoor pond.

I have used qt tanks for a long time. It’s very important to do so. I don’t have it running all of the time, rather I keep extra sponges in the sump/filter so can set a tank up almost instantly if needed.

I have a 20 high that I keep as a quarantine/growout/ guppy breeding. The guppy breeding is just a way to get a disease free flow of live treats for some of my fish and it holds the cycle while I’m not quarantining anything. Currently I have
1 african leaf fish (auct-something ctenopoma)
8 african butterfly fish
1 delhezi bichir
1 retropinis bichir

Whenever I have fish that need the tank such as the ones above I simply move the guppies to my 29 where they wait. I recently considered making the 29 a quarantine also but decided against it.

I had a 20 Long that I was using as a quarantine tank, but it recently became a display once I got a small Tanganykan setup going. And like you, I plan on using my quarantine as a multipurpose tank as well. IE as a hospital tank and a place to keep my smaller fry.

I have two small tanks I store in the garage until needed. All supplies are with each one including fake plants/hiding spots to reduce acclimation stress.

Same man, I was always setting up a 10 or a 20 gallon intending for it to be a dedicated quarantine tank but I always turned it into a normal tank. Once you get a dedicated quarantine tank it’s easier to keep it that way.

I'm sure this is very common. My current 20 Long Tanganykan was originally my quarantine tank, but those plans got changed because I'm a fish addict. I think my current 6 gallon quarantine is too small for most fish so it will remain a quarantine. At least that's the plan and I REALLY do like having a quarantine in place.

Had one. Now it has feeder guppies, toad tadpoles my kid found in a container, and my opaline gourami who was originally using it as a hospital tank.20190428_124431.jpg20190428_124450.jpg

I have a small saltwater tank running empty, for adding anything to my reeftank. Freshwater I don't have one at the moment, because I haven't bought any freshwater fish in over 6 months. When I have a setup that requires it (larger community tank where I am still adding fish, etc) I will run a freshwater QT tank and usually QT fish for about a month. If I have a setup where all fish will be added from same source at same time, Like for example if I'm growing out a group of same species cichlids, I don't QT, since anything they may have, they have all been exposed to already, and won't be risking the health of anything else.
For anyone running a tank where the stock will change around over time, I definitely recommend a QT tank, can save a lot of headaches.
