How many people have or raise pearl scale cichlids

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
yeah brasiliensis are actually more aggressive than most other geos, but geos in general are usually not that commonly available in stores because they dont really color up until they are older so they aren't as appealing to the casual fish store customer, you have to know what your looking at and know the beauties they turn into and most people dont do their research before getting a fish

I actrually have read many times that they are thinking of reclassifying it because it isnt actually closely related to the other geophagus species, like the threadfin cichlid.

I agree, this fish will eventually be reclassified at some point, as will the G. iporangensis.

I have read that about them too that they will be reclassified. It also mentioed that they are aggresive by geo standards but a rather mild mannered cichlid. With thered in them I wish we could get that gene into our red texas program. I have looked on the cichlid species profile web site and seen some of the stunning geos there are and by that the brasiliensis is rather bland. I can't complain though ours came free with 2 oscars and we just kind of became fasinated with it.

They are a lot bigger than some Geo's and do grow very fast. I feel that in a tank with more aggressive tankmates the brasiliensis would be a much better option then some of the more fragile Geophagus species

Unlike other geos though they don't seem to spend much time sifting through the substrate. I have only seen ours do this a few times. He is about 5 to 6 inches long so I am guessing he will almost double in size..
