How many of you guys keep Blue-Tongued Skinks? What species are they?

I am curious about this lizard, but all the pictures I have seen are in terrible quality. So many of them are bloated, obese or underweight.

Eh, I guess I worded my post wrong. I wasn't necessarily looking for help. I was asking the community about their BTS.

Thanks though. I am reading through the site.

I don't have her anymore, but here's a pic of the one I owned. I think it was T. gigas.

edit: wow...I guess this is pretty poor quality, too.

are you talking about australian Tiliqua Scincoides?

Yep, Tiliqua sp.

Although the picture is poor quality, that is a really nice coloration on it. I would love to watch that thing run around. How did that go for you? A lot of the T. Gigas are wild-captives.

BTS rocks, I had one for about 5-7 years -- I think it was a Western or T. occipitalis. It had the same diet as me. Everything home-cooked, no red meat Too bad I couldn't carry her to the full-term of her lifespan... girlfriends gradually stripped away my collection. :swear::cry:

She (I dunno for sure) was one of the best lizards I ever had. I adopted her from a petstore, and she had a cataract in one eye. I agree, they're one of best lizards you can get.

Whenever I have kids, I intend that a BTS will be their first lizard pet. Hopefully, by then, they'll be cheaper..lol.

i would but there expensive

They shouldn't be expensive, but they are because they don't reproduce as fast as bearded dragons.

That's only reason why BDs are so popular, they produce between 30 to 40 eggs while a BTS produce about 5 to 25 live offsprings. Do the math.

Which you rather have? A $80 BTS or a $10 BD?
