Hello,
so a customer at work is trying to get me fired since I offered to sell her wild caught fish. She told me it was disgusting to own/sell wild caught fish and we should not be doing that.

I won't get fired, but I am just curious how many people on here keep or have kept wild caught fish?

What are your thoughts on this?

Many really popular aquarium fish are wild caught, I know a bunch of the smaller tetras are, datnoids, pbass, and most large catfish as well. People just think that they are farmed unless the tag specifically says "wild-caught"

I think most everyone here has kept wild caught species at some point. Some fish just can't be farm-bred yet. You should tell customers like that woman that wild-caught fish help support the economies of those countries the fish were collected from. Plus, as long as there's a strong demand in the fishkeeping hobby for a certain fish, it gives people an incentive to not overfish and to look for ways to breed that fish in captivity.

90% of my fish are native fish that I have collected myself.

She said I was racist since I said that there are some guys in African and Asia that catch them. Its a source of income. Not the most poltically correct thing to say I know, but its true.

I want to present this to the owners. They told me not to worry about it, but its the principle of the matter in my mind.

She has a masters in fish biology, but does not know that a lot of fish are wild caught.....?

My wild caughts (off the top of my head):
-dicrossus maculatus pair
-otocinclus
-clown loaches
-polka dot loaches
-C121 Cory catfish

I think that's it... Nothing wrong with wild caught fish IMO unless the species is endangered or totally unfit for aquariums.
