It's handy if you got more from the same species and want to keep records.

I have ~500 fish (not all monsters :D ), and ~100 species.
But I dont tend to name the smaller fish, I just keep records of their whereabouts. Date of arrival, date of parting, medicines, waterchanges etc. Fun for when I'm old, and I keep track of the bigger picture.

The bigger fish of which I keep several, its a token to respect to give them a name better than a number or description, if I wanna keep records.
Exceptions for big fish I love which are alone.
Naserian, Digit, Mickey. Mburanumwe, Stip, Streep, Kilo, Harry, Luna, Sol, Quat, Nebbuchadnezzar.

My Oscars are called: Solimojes, Maranjoon, and Yapura.
The albino male is Sanema.

My guinea pig is Koei, and my cat is Merlijn.

I named my albino red tiger oscar Conan O'Brien.

Hes ghostly white with a streak of red on top. Just like Conan.

We even call him CoCo lol

I love naming my fish it makes me feel like a child and strengthens the bond.

Senegal Bichir - Bohren (After the band Bohren and Der Club of Gore)
Ropefish- Bahdrina (Bohren's Ladyfriend)
Blood Parrot - Woody (After Woody Allen)
Pictus Catfish - Lister (TV Show on BBC, "Red Dwarf", it's amazing)
Bala Shark - Avery (Grandfather's middle name)
Glass Barb (Last remaining) - Moya (The Ship on Farscape)

Sorry to go into detail. Why not though.
