how many large sized polys in a 280? They will be housed with 7 dats, 1 Clown Knife, 1 black Aro, 2 plecos, scarlet and Adonis. So far its 4 Endlis 14"+, 2 Congius 12"+, 4 Ornates 12"-24", 2 Delhezi 12"+, 1 Koliba 17"+, 2 Segs 7-12".

The problem is you have 7 dats in the tank. Dats can really create loading to the filter system. When they grow over 1ft, I bet that's on the margin of the 280gal tank. If it's not Dats case, IMO, 15~20 polys might be ok.

Well the tank has 3 fx5s on it currently and a wet dry system with two mag drives. is that enough.

Filters keep waste out of the water column, which can reduce the fish's exposure to harmful bacteria, but they don't eliminate nitrates.

Tanks with heavy loads will have high nitrates, and that is harmful to your fish. You'd want to start doing multiple WC's per week.

You could also try a veggie filter I suppose.

if you have good filtration, and plenty of bottom space (i think you do), all those bichirs should be fine

I do WCs once a week. I just wanted to know how much more room I have or if it was too much.

Test the water and your system will tell you if it can handle the load or not.

If you start getting amonia spikes or high nitrates, then you need to change part of your maintenance. :)

Whats the footprint of the tank?

8'x2'x30" If anything I could move the Dats to a 180 I have thats been sitting their with one big Lima in it. Thanks.

You should be fine imo, add a 24/7 water changer, or just add some plants to your w/d to keep nitrates down a little.
