Are you saying that in order to properly filter my 300 gallon biologically, I would need 6,000 scrubbies?... Sounds like a lot to me. How big are these scrubbies? Never mind..I'm going to have to do some research on these things..
Edit.- LOL VLDesign's info was good. Totally didn't even notice the links. Thanks for the info guys!
I'm goin with 1 scrubbie/2 gallons to start. 1500 gallons=750 scrubbies. Bio load is 4 rays. This will depend solely on bio load though. More load=more scrubbies. For a heavily stocked tank I'de start with 1/ gallon and go up from there.
Oh wait, I got it. 100 scrubbies takes up 5 gallons of space. Not 100 scrubbies for every 5 gallons of water. I was wondering why you wanted to use so many scrubbies! LOL
why not go with swampcooler media? do a lil searching and find a HVAC supply house near you (sometimes homedepot/lowes carry the stuff as well.. but its hit or miss) 25"x30"x2" sheets are like $5-$7.. and 36"x192"rolls... theres several differnt kinds... im obviously talking about the synthetic stuff (usuially comes in blue or white)..
there other stuff that looks like shredded cardboard and some that looks like straw but (hopefully) obviously dont use that stuff cuz it rots with time
yes those work as well.. but srsly for lots of filtration media pads are the way to go...
go to RSD its on orangethorpe ave.. theres a big box of the media pads sitting by the door...
Upsides:free if you have a girlfriend (they always keep extra....)
Downsides:Not pretty if your girlfriend ever finds out where her body scrubbers went.also they compress, have a low surface area and can sometimes contain perfumes built right into the plastic/nylon.
i went to 4 dollar stores and bought up all the ones i could find. 50 packs later at 6 per pack and 79 cents each ended up being about 300 scrubbies in 2 20gal containers, 1 20gal container held 150 scrubbies and was submerged, my other 20gal container was stacked above it and is the drip wet/dry section. im using this on a 400gal tank and this is over killed. i have the tank heavily stocked and i can't complain one bit on how well the scrubbies work, and how many i use. i do plan on going further in over kill cuz i wanna add more fish to it, so im thinkin 2 50gal bins and prolly another 300 scrubbies and shove it all in a 100gal tank to be the main sump.
scrubbies rock kids, i use them on every tank i own
