How many red wolf fish could you fit in a 55 gallon? 70 Gallon? Can you put more than one in a tank together assuming you kept them well fed without having to worry about fish with their heads chewed off? I'm kind of on the fence with my next tank. I don't know whether to do a small shoal of Exodon Tetras or a couple of small red wolves...

red wolves.. as in, Rainbow Wolf aka Ery Ery Wolf?

or like.. red hoplias wolves that get really big and mean?

My bad. I mean Rainbow Wolves. Not Hoplias...

I think its one regardless of the type. You could try more and let us know. ;)

I was going to try a group of red Hifin Wolfs and try and get a pair from them but lots of googleing has led me to consider it to much of a risk.

I would love to get another Rainbow Wolf though these guys are a fraction less aggressive and may be more compatable.

So you think wolf-fish (across the board) are solitary keeps, then?

I concur with the previous comments. One would be best. I've tried several times to keep multiple Erythrinus together in my 100 gallon tank. Even with many hiding places, I usually end up with one dominant one that kills or maims the others. My sole remaining 8" female Erythrinus is pretty docile towards other tankmates though. It leaves 3" datnoids alone. Thus, their aggression is primarily towards conspecifics, i.e., other Erythrinus.

Ok... so... since the reds will pretty much max out at 8-10", then could you house a single one in a 29 gallon tank? Or would a 55 be the minimum? I just don't want to spend a bunch of money on a huge tank that would only house one fish that might not even need THAT much room....

i'm sure somebody will disagree with me but i'd put one in a 29g by himself if i could find another one for a descent price ...they are more active than a regular wolf but they still don't need alot of room ...

Im sure he will be fine in the 29g I just recently got rid of mine he was about 6" not a active fish check mine out in my gallery
