Hi,
I just got a 75 Gallon set up today! I got it to house ropefish and maybe Senegal Bichirs. While I am waiting for it to cycle and get it ready for them, I have a question. The question is, how many ropefish can I fit in the aquarium? I ask because I have heard everything from 'no one' to 'ten.' I was thinking two or three Ropefish. Would that give me enough room for a bichir as well?
It seems like everyone agrees on the planting, gravel, lighting, tankmates, and filtration for the tank, but no one can decide on a number. I know they are social fish, so I want at least two.

You can really fit 5 or 6 they are better in groups and there's never much hostility. If that's the only fish your getting if your getting more fish I'd go with 4

In a 75 you could probably fit 10 in there. But I would Definitley check the entire tank for any possible escape holes. Also don't do gravel, do sand. Easier to keep clean and just looks cleaner.

Thanks! I think I might start with a bichir (will two work?) since I will have to get those much smaller than the ropefish. The bichirs I can get here are about three inches long, small babies. I don't want the ropefish eating them while they are small. The ropefish are already about 12 inches when I can get them.
I do have sand! I am actually doing a sand/small gravel mix (2-1 ratio) so it looks a little more natural and helps the plants. We are also making sure there isnt a gap for anything, don't want them to become snacks for the cat if they jump out.

The rope fish won't eat the smaller bichirs. I have a 12" rope fish with a 3" ornate and sen doing just fine
+1 on the sand and I suggest doing high plants. They'll wrap themselves around it going all the way up

The ropefish has mouth is to small. You can get quite a bit of bichirs to fit that if your talking segnal Bichir or the dinosaur Bichir *whatever petsmart calls it*BEWARE GETTING BICHIRS BECONE ADDICTIVE*
