I had a pair of salvani about 8 or 10 years ago. Absolutely the meanest fish I have ever had. The pair would continually attack my hand and siphon tube every time I cleaned the tank. yeah i've had others nip at my hand and get po'ed at the siphon before, but they were relentless.
Both were pretty large, about 8-10" in a 75 gallon with plenty of plants and rocks. They spawned 3 times. She couldn't keep up with him though, and one morning I woke up to find her torn to shreds and dead. I never could get any other fish to go in with him for more than 5 minutes, no matter how aggro they were supposed to be.
I eventually shipped him to a buddy of mine in Chicago that had a really pretty female. They were in a 500g with some dovii and I think some jags. He sent me some fry back and told me that when they spawned they would pin the dovii and the jags up into one corner of the tank.
Long story short, no matter how many water changes, there is a good possibility that they will assassinate everything in the tank including each other. Of course, it could just have been that one fish's temperament.
