How many species of Dorado are there?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
So maybe they very well could be another "blue" Motoro??? Blue as long as it's in the river or shortly after export but sure to disappear in captivity.....

Wish I was a gambling man, I'd be enjoying this a whole lot more, but when you're talking a weeks wages, I'm certainly hoping that it's possible for the right Dorado to be golden in an aquarium.....

Gonna run into the same BS as I did with Falkneri rays.... Hobby knows a fish by 1 name used for years, scientists step in and re-evaluate and then a species name starts generalizing a family, and then it's either the fish formerly known as VS politically correct. Ends in a mess of confusion and heads right back towards hobbyists being right and scientist generalizing to the point where they are right by default cause if you're vague enough then you're not wrong.

Do it right, or don't do it at all......

The trick is making a strong argument. If we put together a strong enough proposal, like I did with ATF, there's really no room for argument.

Are you getting one of Wes' big head' Dorados? Those things have me tempted to sell Max, especially if they actually turn gold.

Max you cannot sell.

Max is an icon of mfk.

Period.

Get another bloody tank.

It seems not all wild caught Brasiliensis are all gold either, it could be that the fish simply don't get the all gold tint until they get VERY large.

It would seem this fish that was wild caught is about the size that you would see typically in home aquariums (16-20 inches) and still hasn't obtained it's very bright golden sheen yet, notice it too has only the gold on the fins, head, and gill plate.

In comparing, this fish is drastically different. It's flanks are pretty much an all gold tint and the fins and the head have only deepened in color.

Comparing however to a Hilarii that is comparable size to something we would see in the home aquarium there is little to no gold coloration at all even on the gill plates or fins.

I think the possibility is that we simply aren't seeing dorado at the size needed to get them to their full color potential as it seems the color comes on with age/size.

This seems to be a fish around 20-24 inches

Al how aggressive is yours in your big tank?
From what I've read I feel like these large dorados would not do well with anything else.

That's the same thing they say about Aimara.......
