just to weigh in with my $.02 but with my fx5, i was only turning over 2xph in my 370 filled with cats. HOWEVER! i did stuff it to the gills with pond pumice and a layer of poly scrubbers on top. Its really the set up of the filter. Ive since moved my fx5 to a 65g bog tank.

I like crystal clear water so I prefer 7-10

I've got a pretty heavy bioload and i turn over x5 for the bio and x1.5 for the mech.. I do however have a big streamer in there.. 500g btw.. I'd probably aim a bit higher with a tank under 300g.. I also have heaps of plant filtration..

I think the media used matters more than the turnover...
If you use proper media (mostly biological) , you can have crystal clear water with 4-5 times turnover..
