how many yellow labs in a 90?

How big are you labs?

This is what I would do:

Buy as many fry as you can from different sources.

Start removing the males when they are adults, about one every 2-3 weeks.

Then you should be left a female heavy tank.

Add 1 or 2 males back into tank and sell the rest.

Finally, someone who knows !
I was reading this thread and I cant belivie some of the advice, why are people giving advise if they have never breed or keept Y. labs ?
Anyway, if yoy are in a hurry you can start with a handfull (10-20) of adults and remowe the males when you see them showing (keep the male you like best in a seperate tank).
Dont worry, when you remowe the alfa male another usually starts showing in 12-24 hours if you only keep labs in the tank.
When you think you only have females left bring back your favorite male and soon you will have few females holding.
I personally like better starting with lots of fry from 3-4 breeders.

right now ive got 4 cm female wel i think its a female

also a 6cm female and a 8 cm male.
they hide alot at the moment !

ive got three seprate rock piles in the tank now using river boulders.

i can get another large male for cheap ,do you think i should get it now? or just wait til i get more females?

You may have 2 or even 3 males. The alpha male will scare any other male in the tank and keep it from showing it's colors. I would read Vargur's post and follow his advice if you don't like mine. Right now you need to add 3-4 as often as your bio-load allows.

Basically, make sure your ammonia, nitrite are zero, and that your nitrates are below 50. A good way to have the right water quality is to do a water change the day before and check it the day you go to buy more. Of course you need to move the rocks around every time you add new ones.

Yellow labs and electric yellow labs are two common names for the same species of fish (labidochromis caeruleus) and they are compatible with pretty much all other mbuna.

That recommended sex ratio seems about right.

could you actually fit that many labradores in an aquarium? I have a hard time keeping one dog in my house.

Labs must be good community dogs :)

you many want to keep in mind that some LFS sell mutts that people bring in. Be sure you know and trust your LFS. I work at one, and I see people tell people the wrong things often. I think they do it on purpose sometimes. That is the rouble with hiring young stupid people... anyways

Make sure you are picking pure breed. Spend the extra dollars if you can not be sure. Only buy from those you trust. I mean you are breeding, you do not want a dud fish, or worse make even uglier fish. I have seen a mutt lab, sometime they mate with similar fish and you get a dull nasty yellow. spend the extra and you can then sell back some fry to make up for it.

thats my two cents... and I refuse to take it back... really who uses pennies anymore.
