Hi. Im getting 6 rbps this coming week (about 2" each). How many of them could i keep in my tank for life (the tank is 4ft x 20" x 20"... about 80g).
Thanks

How much hidding places do they have from each other?
How often do they eat or do you feed?

If they can get away from each other and they are constanly feed They SHOULD be able to stay in there in a group of 4 or 5 I think that sixth one might have to go.

Just make sure you grow them out and then sell the smallest one back to the LFS or a buddy when you are ready

keep all 6 in there and you will end up with the right number abyway..4-5.
my two breeding pairs were the result of exactly this...got 6 and was left with 4 and luckily it was 2 males and 2 females.

Though mostly right if they are feed well and have plenty of hidding spots you can keep all 6 in there for most of there life.

6 should be fine in that tank for all/most of their life

are you serious? 6 in there for life? Do you realize that red bellies can grow up to 10-12" fully grown? Now tell me that you can fit 6 adult in 80g?

IMO 6 adult would be good in 180g plus tank.

The rules was 20g per fish, but aleast 30g per adult. 30g x 6 pygo would be about 180g plus. But there just me.

80g with that demension would be a great outgrow tank. in Couple of month you will need bigger tank.

Don't take this the wrong way sticky but there are ecceptions to all rules.
I have 13RBPs in a 125 and they are all 5"+. And I have no problems with aggresion of fin nipping. The last time one got a nipped fin was when they were all about 3" or smaller. When they were setting up there territories.

As long as they are feed often and have plenty of hidding spots and pristine water and filtration it can be done. BUT not to many ppl are willing to take the amount of time that I do to keep my tank as nice as it is. I think that there are about three other guys here that put as much time into there P tanks as I do ( yourself included sticky)

Start with your six in 8 months pick your fav 4 .IMO I think no hiding spots .
Open floor plan ! will allow your 4 p's to max out in that size tank .
How they doing by the way ?
