Don't take this the wrong way sticky but there are ecceptions to all rules.
I have 13RBPs in a 125 and they are all 5"+. And I have no problems with aggresion of fin nipping. The last time one got a nipped fin was when they were all about 3" or smaller. When they were setting up there territories.

As long as they are feed often and have plenty of hidding spots and pristine water and filtration it can be done. BUT not to many ppl are willing to take the amount of time that I do to keep my tank as nice as it is. I think that there are about three other guys here that put as much time into there P tanks as I do ( yourself included sticky)

no worry!..it's all sharing information here.

I understand that EVERY one kept piranha differently and yes there are ecception to the rules. However! just think about 13 RBP at 5" in 125g..yes you can keep up the feeding, yes you can keep up the filtration and yes you can keep up the water parameter and change.

But you wont know when and where will the piranha will snap at other piranha when the time come. piranha is unpredictable, it can happen any time any day.

Is like you putting a 13 people in a normal room together, you think all 13 people are comfortable or love to be with crowed space?

same as piranha, or any other fish. crowed are not the right thing to doIMO.

When i keep fish or piranha, it's not what i want or make me happy because im not the one who live in the tank. It's what make the fish happy because they are the one who's living in there.

the bigger tank and the more space is always better, but again everyone got they own way.:D just my 2cent.;)

hey everyone, thanks for all the answers. What im going to do is wait until they grow and then find homes for two of them, keeping 4 in the tank. Theyre doing great, theyre eating a ton and growing really fast. Their color is coming out great, Ill post some pics up soon.
thanks again

heres a few pics (not the best quality)

yes tru I am setting up a new 125 and I have not decided on weather or not to just transfer half my stock to the new tank get rid of half my stock or remove the bulky decor and rplace it with more hidding spots. Its all up in the air right now. i have a few that I could part with and not be to sad but to part with half my Ps would suck but I'm wanted to set up a new tnak thats not got Ps in it and i'm running out of space. When I originally got all 13 (3 were a gift for xmas and 10 I bought when I got the 125) I was planning ona few deaths to thin them out. but it never happened to my suprize every day I waited to come home to a half eaten body but never did.

koop, i still think you should keep em all in the 125, i think you'd be happiest in the end if you did it.

i don't recommend overcrowded tanks for everyone, especially those without alot of experience, because they are more work, but if you know what you are doing and don't mind the extra work, they can be done successfully and the fish will be happy and healthy.

lol I know joe lol I am still toying with it but I have an idea for the other 125 and I am waiting of wyld to get back with me on if its a workable idea or not first. He's got a PM from me so when he gets around to it I think my decision will be based on if what I want to do with my other tank will work or not

what's the plan that you're thinkin about for the other tank?

start with 6 or 7 then work your way down to your favourite 3-4 for life

its like a bit of thread hijack, but i think koop has 13 happy reds in the 125 because they are just 5 inches, when at full size i'm sure he'll settle for 9 or so.(i hav 13 home bred reds in a 220gal pond)
in a 48x18 footprint 5 fullsize reds will be pushing it.

I would go with 5-7. I like to stay with odd #s on the RBs. SOme say anything over 3 it doesn't matter others say anything over 5. I like to say anything over 8 even or odd doesn't matter. I can't really back anything up accept for never keep 2 always 1 or 3....or more.
